Antique French Louis XVI Oval Giltwood Mirror

Antique French Louis XVI Oval Giltwood Mirror will make an elegant addition to any timeless decor!  The classic oval shape is enveloped by an amazingly intricate framework, beginning with subtle egg & dart, then an embossed rosette motif, then a spiral rope design with rosettes, and finally the outer trim.  One must look closely to fully appreciate the incredible detail in these tiers of molded detail.  The bottom of the mirror is graced by elongated scrolls with foliates surrounding an acanthus plume with wildflowers.  The crown, however, captivates one's attention with a regal pierced scallop shell over a flower blossom, surrounded by intricate foliate scrollwork both upturned around the shell with floral embellishments, and also cascading down the shoulders of the framework with floral sprays.  The work on the crown is also separately pierce-carved allowing one to see the wall behind through the carving, creating a fantastic sculptural effect.  The gold finish has achieved a lovely patina during the passing of the century when this masterwork was created.
