19th Century French Louis XVI Gilded Mantel Mirror is a definitive example of the neoclassical style revived in the 18th century by King Louis XVI and his name has since been synonymous with the genre. Hand-crafted with great detail on all three sides, with a relatively plain base framing designed to go atop a buffet, mantel or fireplace, for examples, the decorative frame consists of three separate molding tiers each enhanced with its own design, from Greek coin to foliate pattern to beading, the latter of which is immediately adjacent to the generously sized mirror itself. Such a design was designed to amplify ambient light and provide a lovely reflection of the rest of the room. On top, we see the timeless floral wreath "tied" with ribbons and fitted with laurel sprays leading the eye to the notched out upper shoulder corners adorned with rosettes.
