An elegant 19th century French Louis XVI transitional mirror, constructed with a wood frame finished in hand-applied gesso and gold leaf.  The arched crest is beautifully adorned with a neoclassical arrangement of laurel wreath, crossed quiver and torch, and ribbon detailing ~ classical motifs symbolizing triumph, love, and virtue.
The gently shaped upper rail reflects the transitional influence between the late Louis XV and the more architectural Louis XVI style, while the refined geometric frieze beneath the crest reinforces its neoclassical character.  The frame is enriched with delicately molded borders and restrained scrolling side accents, maintaining balance and proportion throughout.
The time-softened gilding reveals the depth and crispness of the gesso work beneath, offering a warm, luminous surface that only authentic 19th century French craftsmanship achieves.  Its scale and presence make it ideal above a console, in an entry hall, or as a distinguished focal point in a traditional interior.
A refined and classically inspired French mirror that embodies the elegance and enduring symmetry of the Louis XVI aesthetic.
