A charming provincial scene brings warmth and character to this late 18th to early 19th century French trumeau mirror. The original hand-painted oil on board portrays two young companions enjoying a convivial moment beneath the classical architecture of a country estate, joined by a faithful dog at their side. Soft landscape details, a distant sky, draped fabric and a small flowering plant complete the wonderfully narrative composition.
The original painted panel is set above a rectangular mirror and surrounded by its original molded giltwood frame. Delicate floral ornamentation enriches the corners and borders, while the naturally aged gilded finish contributes an appealing sense of history and authenticity. The combination of original painting, mirror glass and period frame makes this trumeau an especially decorative example of French provincial craftsmanship.
Original painting and original frame.
