Location: Baton Rouge
SaleInspired by the theatrical splendor of Italian Baroque design, this mid-century giltwood mirror brings movement, light, and sculptural presence to the wall. Its elaborate crest and shield-shaped form recall the grand decorative mirrors created for Italian palazzi, where deeply carved ornament and gilded surfaces were used to amplify candlelight and lend brilliance to an interior.
Hand-carved from solid wood, the frame features an intricate composition of curling acanthus leaves, floral details, and flowing scrollwork. The fully pierced carving allows the wall behind to remain visible, giving the substantial design an airy quality. An elaborate crown rises above the shaped mirror glass, while the hand-applied gold finish has developed a warm patina that enhances the depth and character of the carving.
Although created during the mid-20th century, the mirror faithfully reflects the artistry and opulence associated with antique Italian Baroque decoration.
