18th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas of Madonna, Child & Angel ~ Flemish School is a lovely interpretation of an age-old scene.  An adoring Madonna gazes upon the Christ child as an angel looks on in awe.  The serenity of the scene is quite obvious, and it appears as if the Christ child is gazing back at his admirers with his own understanding of the moment.  The tree bearing fruit in the background is symbolic, as is the foliate frond in the angel's hand.  Note the artist's deft handling of subtle contrast using shadow and color to great advantage.  Survives in what appears to be the original frame.
