19th Century Framed Oil Painting on Canvas signed Casteleyn is a remarkable example of the genre, popular throughout the centuries and most notably revived during the Napoleon III Period.  Here the artist draws the viewer into the scene as if stepping across stones in the brook, while pausing to take in the serene view of the meanderings of the brook, cattle coming down for a drink, and the lush wooded landscape all around.  The painting remains in good condition, and the frame appears original but it is impossible to tell for sure.  Either way, the frame is period correct with intricate embossed detailing and an aged golden finish.
