Antique Framed Nautical Oil Painting on Panel ~ Signed is a scene played out every morning during the past couple of centuries along the coast where quaint little fishing villages made their living off the sea.  Here the fishing fleet is setting off in the wee hours to get to the prime fishing spots first.  The mainsail, a gaff rig, was used to maneuver out of the moorings and docks, with the jib set to maximize speed, although such fishing scows were lucky to make 6 or 7 knots.  When the day was successful, their wide designs would hold lots of fish ready for the market.  The artist here has captured the cloudy morning just as the haze is lifting off the sea, when the water is quite calm, utilizing a wide variety of hues in the gray palette for his composition.  Survives in its original giltwood frame.
