Antique Framed Oil Painting on Board by Dieudonné Jacobs (1887–1967), “Les Genêts”
A quietly evocative landscape by Belgian painter Dieudonné Jacobs, Les Genêts captures the gentle beauty of the countryside as daylight begins to soften into evening. In the foreground, a graceful tree rises against rolling hills and a luminous sky, while strokes of warm golden color suggest broom in bloom, bringing life and warmth to the tranquil vista. The composition has a hushed, poetic quality, with shifting light and subtle atmosphere lending the scene remarkable depth and calm.
Executed on board, the painting possesses a pleasing richness of surface and a sense of control that suits Jacobs’ sensitive handling of landscape. The original frame remains with the work and enhances its period character beautifully, giving the painting an added sense of authenticity and presence.
Dieudonné Jacobs (1887–1967) was a Belgian Post-Impressionist painter known for portraits, landscapes, and historical subjects. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Liège under Adrien de Witte, Auguste Donnay, and Évariste Carpentier. Though his early artistic training was interrupted by the First World War, he went on to build a distinguished career, later studying in Rome and earning recognition for both his technical accomplishment and broad artistic range. His works are represented in museum collections in Belgium, France, and the Vatican.
