Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Henri J. Pauwels (1903-1983) is a definitive work of the genre most favored by the artist, depicting the quaint country life in rural Europe.  Here we see water, land and sky with vegetation all conspiring to create a backdrop for the thatch-roofed cottage serving as the principal focal point of the composition.  Look carefully and you'll see the distant church spire of a nearby village.  Survives in its original frame, professionally restored by our expert in-house staff.  Henri Joseph Pauwels was born December 16, 1903 in Sleydinge, Belgium.  He attended art instruction in Parisienne academia, immersed in the techniques of the French Impressionists and masters.  He is famous for his landscapes and depictions of rural life, using a subtly muted earth tone palette, preferring to paint outdoors and on location.  His works are widely distributed across northern Europe including Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, especially featured in Le Musee de Gand.
