Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by J. Decroupet is a superb still life painted in a rustic setting as in a barn, with hay strewn about the scene and earthenware blue & white adding a humanistic touch.  Freshly harvested apples are the primary focus of the artist's attentions.  The backdrop appears to be burlap arranged in such a way as to allow the upper left to be in shadow for an interesting visual effect.  Surviving in its original frame, such works of still life subjects have been and continue to be taught at all major art schools in Europe, creating a threshold for budding artists, yet the allure of the genre brings experienced artists back for reinterpretation time and again!
