Antique Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Lucien Hock (1899-1972), Floral Still Life in Delft Pot, Dated 1949 presents a beautiful bouquet arranged in a Delft pottery vessel.  The composition is grand in scale and wonderfully vertical, with tall blue delphiniums rising above soft pink and creamy white blossoms for a dramatic, elegant effect.
The Delft pot gives the painting a classic European decorative note, grounding the bouquet with the beloved blue and white palette that remains timeless in collected interiors.  Hock’s painterly brushwork brings softness and movement to the flowers, while the muted background allows the arrangement to feel luminous, romantic, and refined.

Lucien Hock was born in 1899 in Liège.  In 1912 at the School of Armory, he trained as an arms engraver, and from 1917 to 1919, studied with A. de Witte at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège.  In 1918 he collaborated on the journal Anthologie, founded by Georges Linze, and was a founding member of L' Atelier in 1932^.  He is said to have produced remarkable portraits in his youth and was also considered an excellent pastellist.  Winner of the Marie Prize, in 1965 he received the award of consecration of the province of Liège.
