Antique Oil Painting on Canvas by Ferdy Naulaerts (1922-2001) is a classic still life, a genre that has survived for eons with a myriad of interpretations over the centuries.  Here Naulaerts has used a soft palette with emphasis on a subtle green hue, choosing the frame to complement the work.  Nuts and fruits surround a huge cluster of green grapes which is the primary focus of the work.
Ferdy Naulaerts went to the academy in Antwerp in 1938 to master the techniques of painting.  He worked as a fine painter in photogravures for De Schutter in the Venusstraat.  The photogravure process is an early printing technique that required hand-detailing intaglio printing plates, and required great talents in reverse imaging production.  Naulaerts is also noted as the creator of the portrait gallery of the Essen mayors.
