Framed Oil Painting on Canvas by Eric Verwaerde (1930-2021) is a classic study of a farmhouse nestled in a stand of old-growth trees.  The dirt road invites the viewer into the tranquil pastoral scene, enhanced by the cow resting in the shade in the "front" yard.  Verwaerde has created an angular composition following natural eye movement from the late summer colors at the top of the trees in the left foreground angling down to the side porch of the quaint cottage on the right.  Remnants of fence posts indicate maintenance of the property is not a priority.  The wonderful earth tones pervade the entire work, including the cloudy sky above.  Survives in its original frame.  A splendid example of mid-century expressionism!
