Framed Oil Painting on Panel by R. DeRasse is a truly intriguing work that takes the traditional cityscape genre into a different interpretive level.  Here the paint was used in thick form to impart a three dimensional texture to the image, creating enhanced shadow and visual effect.  It is virtually impossible to render this effect using two dimensional digital photography, but suffice to say viewing this work in person is extraordinarily impressive!  Set on a black background with black lacquer frame, the scene depicts a mansion sited along the waterside enveloped by clouds overhead and mirrored in the water, with the added intrigue of wild berry vines in the immediate foreground.  Earth tones comprise the majority of the palette, with just a touch of jewels in the foliage around the home.  The architecture is classic Flemish, with stepped gables and a watch tower with two angles of pitch on the roof, topped with a wind vane.  The possibility exists that this work was commissioned by the actual owner of this home, or it could just as well be a fanciful invention of the artist's vivid imagination.  Regardless, it is a special work of art that deserves close examination to fully appreciate the intricacies of DeRasse's technique.
