Grand Oil Painting on Canvas by Jaap Schlee (1946-2014) ca. 1980 is a marvelous example of the artist's work, just prior to his embarking on an extensive pencil study of his favorite author, Paul Leautaud for which he is world-renowned.  Painted on a grand scale almost exactly five feet square, this scene depicts a veranda in a sub-tropical climate with the emphasis on the interior space.  The geometry of the wicker furniture and tile floor is amazing, with jaloused windows between stucco walls as a backdrop.  The realism of the scene coupled with the palette is visually stimulating, and it sports its original understated gold frame.
