19th Century French Neoclassical Louis XVI Onyx & Spelter Mantel Clock is a fascinating glimpse into the finery that was produced during the incredibly prosperous times of the Belle Epoque. This example depicts a fancifully dressed young lad ready to go courting, relaxed in a classical pose against the elaborate clock housing which includes architectural detail in fine detail with intricate ornamentation. The hand-painted porcelain dial is prominent, and both clock housing and statuary rest on a semi-translucent piece of onyx, with another piece of onyx arranged vertically below in the amazingly detailed base. The base is festooned with floral and foliate motifs in a wide variety of expressions, surrounding the three facades, and finishing in elegant flourishes below with a trapezoidal form. The gold finish on the spelter metal is in excellent condition, ready to serve another century in style.
Note: Clock is not in working condition; it is sold as is for decorative purposes only.
