19th Century Statue of Lovers in Spelter on Faux Marble depicts two young lovers in classical raiment enjoying their vitality and company.  This idyllic notion rose to incredible popularity during the Belle Epoque, culminating in a variety of sculptors depicting such scenarios in bronze.  Then copies would be made of the original bronzes which were cast in spelter and given a hand-applied finish to mimic the look of bronze.  Note the detail in the garments, the bough of flowers, even the love birds on the ground at their feet!  The classic poses were derived from the French fascination with ancient Greek and Roman statuary.  Set upon a wooden base which has been meticulously hand-painted to look like marble.
