Pair 19th Century French Neoclassical Bronze Statutes on Footed Slate Bases feature the timeless Caryatid subject derived from ancient Greek and Roman architectural designs.  Depicting robed ladies carrying vessels on their shoulders or atop their heads, such adornments could be seen decorating column faces in buildings all across the ancient world.  Replicated on a smaller scale in bronze, they serve as exquisite decorative items that will provide symmetry even though the subjects are substantially different ~ first being mirror images, and second, with different hair styles and robe embellishments.  The metal finish on the bronze has been very well preserved, and each survives with its original multi-tiered slate pediment with bronze banding halfway down to the substantial base fitted with elaborately adorned paw feet in bronze.  Truly timeless!
