Location: Dallas
A striking 19th century French Renaissance Revival brass jardinière, designed as an elegant centerpiece for a dining table, buffet, or console. Generously scaled and richly ornamented, the vessel is beautifully hand-hammered in solid brass, showcasing the craftsmanship and decorative exuberance characteristic of the period.
The rounded body is adorned with repoussé motifs and classical ornament, framed by lion head handles at the sides—an enduring symbol of strength and nobility frequently found in Renaissance-inspired decorative arts. The piece rests on stylized paw feet, reinforcing its architectural presence and giving the jardinière a sculptural quality when displayed as a centerpiece.
The richly worked rim and layered decorative borders add depth and texture, while the warm patina of the brass reflects decades of age and use. Pieces such as this were often placed at the center of a grand table filled with flowers, greenery, or seasonal arrangements, bringing a sense of abundance and refinement to formal interiors.
A handsome decorative object that embodies the romantic historicism of the French Renaissance Revival, making it equally suitable for traditional interiors or as a statement accent among collected antiques.
Condition Note: There is a small hole and signs of wear on the backside of the jardinière consistent with age and use. Please see photos for details.
