19th Century Hand-Hammered Brass Double-Handled Pot was the product of a talented metalsmith, and features an interesting design with equally interesting embellishments!  The ovoid opening at the top is designed to work with the handles on each side to make pouring a simple task.  The handles are generously proportioned and ergonomically shaped, and join at the top and especially at the bottom with scrollwork flourishes.  A reinforcing band around the widest part of the jug acts as a belt, and is embellished with a spiral motif depicting ropework.  The solid base is firmly soldered on, as is a little collar between the spout and the main body of the jug.  The interior was washed in tin, which was and still is considered an ideal metal due to its properties with respect to liquids meant for human consumption.
