Antique Pewter Tobacco Jar is a fascinating find, indeed! Even if one does not use tobacco, it makes a great storage container for tea, sundry kitchen items and what-nots. Fitted with a single hinge, the turned pewter lid sports a porcelain knob at its center, held by a nut and star washer inside. The cylinder of the jar is beautifully embossed with a seaside scene including two square-rigged sailing ships and some interesting architectural ruins by the seaside. The vessel has received a bronze glaze as a finishing touch.
