Rare Napoleon III period large tôle jardinière with its original black lacquered metal finish, gilded brass accents, and fitted tin liner.  The tall rectangular form has a refined architectural presence, with a raised base, small brass feet, and a framed front panel centered by a lion’s head ring pull.  The contrast of black and gold gives the piece its striking visual impact while remaining rooted in one of the most traditional and enduring decorative palettes.
During the Napoleon III period, black lacquered surfaces, ebonized woods, and gilded accents were very much in vogue.  French interiors of the era often embraced this dramatic contrast, drawing from earlier Empire and neoclassical traditions while adding the richness and decorative confidence associated with the mid to late 19th century.  This jardinière reflects that taste beautifully, with a strong silhouette, restrained brass detailing, and a finish that feels both historic and timeless.
The original tin liner makes it especially useful for greenery, ivy, orchids, or seasonal flowers.  Placed on a console, dining table, center table, or marble counter, it becomes an elegant focal point without overwhelming a room.  The black lacquered tôle and gilded brass accents give it a tailored, collected look that works as beautifully in today’s interiors as it would have in a 19th century French home.
A rare and timeless decorative accent with presence, history, and classic Napoleon III style.
