A 19th century French Napoleon III period ebonized cabinet crowned with a pure white Carrara marble top. Strong Neoclassical lines frame the elaborate facade, which is embellished with carved rosettes, scrolling foliage, fluted pilasters and a central medallion featuring a classical urn and foliate motifs.
The Napoleon III period, also known as the French Second Empire, extended from 1852 to 1870 and was distinguished by a confident revival of earlier French decorative traditions. Its Neoclassical influence is particularly evident here in the cabinet’s balanced symmetry, fluted pilasters, classical urn and formal arrangement of carved ornament. The ebonized finish and white Carrara marble reflect the period’s preference for dramatic materials and sophisticated presentation.
A full width drawer is discreetly incorporated beneath the marble top, while the single cabinet door opens to reveal a shelved interior for convenient storage. Raised on turned bun feet, this antique French cabinet offers a refined scale for an entry, salon or bedroom.
