19th Century French Directoire Mahogany Marble Top Console ~ Sofa Table

19th Century French Directoire Mahogany Marble Top Console ~ Sofa Table is a classic example of the refined and elegant style that began during the final years of the 18th century.  Crafted from exotic imported mahogany, it features a shallow architecture that allows it to work in high traffic areas such as foyers, hallways, stairwell landings, niches and even behind the sofa!  The casework consists of concave sides gracefully projecting out towards the front, where two drawers have been designed.  The sides and drawers are outlined in brass beaded molding, with the drawers accessed via round ring pulls with embossed backplates.  Brass tips also appear on the feet, with tapered legs below meeting the tapered and fluted column supports at a juncture upon which is mounted a full width shelf.  The most eye-catching feature is the luxurious Carrara marble top, outlined entirely in brass, with a pierced brass railing following the contour on the entire perimeter except above the drawers themselves.  The luxurious mahogany combines with the marble and the brass accents to create an understated elegance that cannot be denied!
