19th Century French Louis XVI Gilded Marble Top Oval Center Table features marble in a warm neutral beige, accented by subtle gray veining.  The finely carved base has graceful neoclassical proportions, with a shaped apron decorated with laurel garlands, beaded borders, acanthus leaves, floral details, and a central cartouche mounted atop gracefully formed stretchers.
The design reflects the continued admiration for Louis XVI style throughout the 19th century, when French interiors often looked back to the elegance of the late 18th century. Classical symmetry, refined carving, and restrained ornament were highly valued, especially in salon pieces, center tables, and occasional tables created to bring polish and beauty to a room.  Tables like this were often placed in formal sitting rooms, entries, or salons, where they could hold flowers, sculpture, candelabra, or a treasured decorative object.
The warm neutral marble gives the piece a softer and more versatile character, pairing beautifully with the luminous gold leaf.  The lower stretcher, centered by an urn form finial, adds architectural interest while keeping the table light and elegant.
