19th Century French Napoleon III Period Marble Top Center Table was designed to add beauty to a home, most specifically an impressive entry, meant for a foyer or stairwell.  The luxuriously veined Griotte marble top was cut with "finger grooves" around the circumference, designed to catch errant water that may have leaked from fresh flower pots set on the table to welcome guests with beauty and fragrance upon their arrival.  The apron was formed from solid French walnut, and features a continuation of the grooved motif, and allows 27" of knee clearance in case one wants to conscript this beautiful table to serve for a card or chess game.  More sumptuous walnut was employed to create the impressive fluted urn that forms the central support shaft, connected in turn to a roundel upon which four double scrolled legs emanate, each lavished with fine molded detail and an acanthus plume on the topmost shoulder, with an elegant scrolled foot.
