19th Century French Napoleon III Period Marble Top Mahogany Center Table is a stunning work of the furniture crafter's art!  Utilizing exotic imported mahogany, the artisans skillfully and artistically sculpted three scrolled legs then adorned them with amazingly realistic carvings of acanthus plumes.  The tripod leg configuration connects to the bottom of the central shaft, which is trimmed at the very abottom with a carved pendant finial.  Above the legs appear trim gadrooning, then a ring of acanthus plumes, then a finely turned, tapered and carved pedestal with concentric circle motifs.  The tabletop consists of a mahogany veneered apron trimmed in beading for a tailored look, all supporting the original finger grooved marble top so called because the edge treatment conforms to one's finger shape, and is designed to capture errant water escaping from the fresh flower bouquets displayed on such tables to welcome guests, family and friends into the home.
