19th Century French Napoleon III Period Walnut Octagonal Center Table is a remarkable work of the cabinetmaker's art!  The sheer natural beauty of Europe's finest indigenous furniture wood cannot go unnoticed.  The octagonal shape offers the same benefits as a round table yet with more visual interest.  The octagonal top is also carved in the intaglio fashion with stylized foliates and fleurs de lys, with an inlaid French border around the perimeter next to the double-beveled edge.  Support is provided by four finely turned columns which affix to a lower shelf with concave edges lined with a gallery rail.  Under the shelf, four splayed legs feature interesting carved detail and terminate in escargot style scrollworks.
