Location: Dallas
A 17th century rustic country Spanish oak coffee table with an incredible patina that only centuries of life can create. The original finish has been cleaned and waxed by our staff to preserve the beauty of the wood and centuries of patina, revealing a deep, warm surface with rich variations in tone across the wide oak plank top.
Two generous drawers are fitted with hand forged iron drop pulls, and one retains its original hand forged lock plate. The frame is built with pegged mortise and tenon joinery, and the top still bears the initial of the craftsman who made it, a rare and personal mark left by its maker more than three centuries ago. The table was cut down sometime in the last hundred years to become a coffee table.
Spanish furniture of the 17th century was made to last for generations, with sturdy proportions, thick planks, and ironwork forged by the village smith. Pieces like these were the working furniture of farmhouses and country estates during the Spanish Golden Age, prized for strength and simplicity.
Charming yet substantial, the table brings history and warmth to a living room, grounding a modern sofa or a pair of linen upholstered chairs. It is equally at home in a Mediterranean, rustic, or minimalist interior, where its age and character become the focal point of the room.
Circa late 17th century.
