18th Century Country French Whitewashed Armoire is a stately expression of the French interpretation of neoclassical architecture embellished with a style flair influenced by the court of Louis XIII.  Such magnificent pieces served as the primary storage spaces in days of old, with the original term "armoire" derived from the French word for armor, and of course the piece evolved to hold clothing of all types.  The depth and width figures herein are deceptive, as they refer to the extreme dimensions of the multi-tiered crown above, made even more expansive by the mitered corrners.  The entire cornice consists of intricate molded detail with no carvings, overlooking the casework with no less than eight panels defined by their own framework molding, and featuring raised arch panels with the recessed enhanced by cross-hatching.  A tailored base molding below follows the contour of the casework, and is supported by no less than five goblet-shaped feet.  The doors open wide to reveal a capacious interior, thanks to the outboard-mounted brass hinges, complemented by the brass key guard for a refined, uncluttered look.  Expertly whitewashed by our professional in-house staff, it will create a soft yet commanding presence in any room!
