18th Century Rustic Country French Oak Armoire dates to the reign of Louis XV, and features a rural charm that only seasoned artisans using what we consider today to be primitive tools could produce! The casework consists of four sets of three boldly framed panels comprising the sides and each door. Steel barrel hinges and a steel key guard with the original hand-forged lock remain intact. The tailored, rectilinear style was a portent of the classical style that would flourish under Louis XVI in decades to come, accented by molded detail all around the cabinet doors as well as across the crown. Note the intricately hand-hewn panels in the back, and the pegged mortise & tenon joinery throughout the design. Two new shelves have been added for a total of four surfaces within this interior, which can be removed or re-positioned to make room for a hanging rod. The interior is more than generous enough to serve as an extra coat closet for your home!
