PAIR of Antique French Louis XIV Whitewashed Oak Armoires

PAIR of Antique French Louis XIV Whitewashed Oak Armoires is an extraordinary find, indeed!  Meticulously hand-crafted from old-growth French white oak, each appears to be identical to the other but there are minor differences on the interiors.  Both have finely molded crowns with recessed, rounded and mitered cornerposts which the molding follows beautifully.  The facade of the crowns features scrollwork and shell motifs as a portent of the magic to follow below.  The sides are finely molded raised & chamfered panels, combining with the rounded cornerposts with complementary carving to create visual interest no matter what the angle of view.  Below, the full width drawer tier is carved with motifs that reflect the crown above, and is fitted with cast brass pulls, then framed by the elegantly scrolled and carved legs and an undulating, fully carved apron below with shell and foliates set upon a crosshatched background.  The real show stoppers, of course, are the armoire doors.  Each of the four doors in the pair consist of complex, finely detailed molding creating intricate frameworks for the scrollwork and stylized shell carvings with just a touch of floral accents that are so reminiscent of the style preferences of the Sun King, Louis XIV.  Hung by external brass barrel hinges, each door swings wide open to access the interiors.  One has a single shelf and interior mirror, while the other has three shelves to create four surfaces, which when combined create ample storage for any purpose!  The whitewashed finish, professionally applied by our expert in-house staff, was designed to last for generations of enjoyment, and accentuates the styling, architecture and carved embellishment without sacrificing a subdued overall presence of these magnificent examples of the furniture-maker's art!
