18th Century Country French Louis XIV Buffet is a handsome piece that was designed to provide storage, display and serving surfaces, and visual appeal all in one!  Although the design is 23" deep, its mitered corners soften the effect on the traffic flow in the room.  Hand-crafted from dense, old growth oak, it features bold molding detail around the top solid plank surface that also includes a little carved accents on the same mitered corners.  Directly underneath the surface, and designed to blend in with the molded detail, is a pull-out reinforced serving surface that magnifies the utilitarian aspects of this intriguing design.  Fully framed raised panels appear on the sides, with recessed panels on the mitered corner posts, and fine base molding trimmed all around the bottom just above the bun feet.  The cabinet doors at the center, however, steal the show with arched raised panels surrounded by contoured framework and accented with bas relief carvings of foliates in the top corners.  Steel barrel hinges are mounted outboard to allow the doors to swing very wide open for easy access to the voluminous interior that features a single shelf and two surfaces with perpendicularly-oriented floor as was the custom during that time period, designed for maximum strength and longevity.  All joinery is pegged mortise & tenon, hand-rendered in the time-honored traditional style, ensuring this magnificent piece will be an instant family heirloom that you will cherish for decades and decades to come!
