An 18th century Country French buffet in stripped white oak, designed with the simple, elegant lines of the Régence and Louis XIV styles. Stripping has revealed the natural beauty of the oak, leaving a soft, pale patina and a dry, sun washed texture that brings the strong grain of the wood forward. Four doors are each set with a raised panel crowned by a gently arched top with shaped shoulders, framed in bold molding and divided by slender paneled stiles. Hand forged iron hinges and scrolling escutcheons add a graceful, timeworn accent across the façade.
Crafted by a provincial cabinetmaker with pegged mortise and tenon joinery, the case features paneled sides and a molded top of wide oak planks, and rests on stout block feet carried down from the corner stiles. Inside, plank shelves offer the practical character prized in French country homes.
Early 18th century French cabinetmakers introduced the softly arched panel that became a signature of provincial furniture throughout the century, bringing a quiet refinement to everyday pieces made from local oak. Generations later, the design remains as timeless as when it left the workshop.
Long and low, the buffet is a natural fit along a dining room wall, beneath a large painting or mirror, or as a media console in a living or family room. The pale oak finish complements light, airy interiors, modern farmhouse settings, and collected European rooms alike.
