18th Century Country French Louis XV Period Buffet ~ Sideboard is a truly unusual find!  Completely hand-crafted using what would today be considered primitive tools, it was fashioned from old-growth fruitwoods, sycamore and chestnut, and has been stripped of its finish revealing the marvelous patina and sheer natural beauty of the woods.  Exceptionally shallow, the design allows it to be used in a wide variety of applications, from halls to stairwell landings, foyers, behind sofas, as a credenza behind an executive desk, the list is long!  Configured with two full height cabinets that flank a slightly stepped-back center section which consists of an open display space with contoured shelf between a finely molded apron and an asymmetrical crown above.  The cabinets on each side, however, steal most of the attention, having been carved with delightfully stylized shell, floral and foliate motifs on asymmetrical frameworks featuring hand-carved foliate bordering.  Brass hinges and key guards add a nice touch.  Notice the multiple pegged mortise & tenon joints all throughout the design, hinting at the incredible skill and patience of its creators.  The back sports its original solid plank construction.
