18th Century Country French Louis XVI Buffet is a period piece that exemplifies the artistry and traditional craftsmanship of the rural cabinetmaker during the period.  Utilizing dense, old-growth oak, the casework was fashioned with neoclassical lines and features a molded crown around the generous serving & display surface, which overlooks two panels on each side, and the entire front facade which features an unusual carved display.  The pair of drawers use a diamond shaped theme made more prolific in subsequent years, but in this case retaining their classical influence with foliate adornment in relief and intaglio style.  The drawers are separated by a carved rosette, and each features cast brass bale pulls showing fine detail.  The cabinet doors below are works of art, with superlative stylized foliate and floral designs in bas relief framed by quatrefoil overlay and rosettes, then punctuated with cast brass key guards.  Both doors are hung with high-quality brass hinges.  The apron below is of a unique design, with a variation on Greek coin accented with vertical flutes.  Tapered and carved legs provide support.  The doors open wide to reveal capacious storage, making this piece as functional as it is beautiful to behold!
