18th Century French Louis XV Period Buffet is a splendid example of fine rural craftsmanship by artisans who used tools that today would be considered quite primitive.  Emulating the styles set forth by the Court, such cabinetmakers in the provinces mimicked the style in what is today considered the most charming expressions of the genre.  Stylized shell and foliates are arranged asymmetrically on the cabinet doors, with complementary carvings on the two drawers.  Larger than most of its type, it was intended for a grand home and required the bigger scale.  The doors are hung on brass barrel hinges, and the drawers and cabinet doors both feature intricately cast bronze key guards that are quite beautiful all unto themselves!  What a magnificent way to decorate, and have abundant storage and display surface in the bargain!
