SaleLayers of softly worn pale blue and gray paint give this late 18th century Swedish Gustavian buffet an extraordinary sense of history and quiet beauty. Hand-crafted from old-growth pine, its restrained neoclassical design reflects the graceful simplicity that has made Gustavian furniture so enduringly admired.
Three drawers extend across the upper section, including a narrow center drawer traditionally intended for cutlery. Molded diamond forms embellish the two larger drawers and are repeated on the paneled cabinet doors below, creating a pleasing rhythm across the façade. Fluted detailing along the central stile adds another refined architectural element.
The original brass ring pulls and delicate key guards remain in place, their aged surfaces beautifully complementing the painted finish. Generations of use have gently revealed earlier layers of color beneath, forming an authentic distressed patina in subtle tones of blue, gray, and soft white. The shallow proportions further enhance the buffet’s elegant and balanced appearance.
