19th Century Country French Walnut Buffet a Glissant is a uniquely French design, with a regular buffet below topped with a recessed, low cabinet fitted with outboard doors that slide open, and a central upper cabinet.  Such pieces were made for homes with special serving pieces, the most valuable of which were placed in the center above, but lockable in the large lower cabinet as well.  The top surfaces and lower aprons are all contoured in a classic French undulating scroll design, while the remainder of the work remains rectilinear.  The entire front facade is lavished with delightful wildflowers celebrating the natural beauty of the Provencal countryside, all rendered in bas relief.  Steel hinges, key guards, knobs and bale pulls all add a nice, rustic touch.  The two surfaces allow a modicum of serving capability, with the upper surface ideal for display!
