19th Century Country French Whitewashed Buffet is a splendid example of fine craftsmanship, with tailored, elegant lines following the design cues of the Regence period, influenced by both what we call today the Louis XIV and Louis XV styles.  Foliates appear in bas relief on the drawers which are centered with finely cast brass keyguards.  Rounded, carved cornerposts bracket the drawers as well as the beautifully carved cabinet door panels below, framed with archer's bow motif above stylized foliates with a basket of flowers.  Complementary carvings appear on the contoured apron below, with cross hatching leading the eyes to the boldly scrolled legs on each corner carved with Florentine fleurs de lys and lions' paw feet.  The subtle multi-toned whitewashed finish only adds to the visual allure!
