18th Century Country French Louis XVI Period Commode in Stripped Oak represents the stately classicism that dominated the styles produced by France during the dawn of our own country on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.  This example features the timeless rectilinear architecture enhanced by bold molding above surrounding the solid plank top, recessed side panels, fluted and reeded cornerposts with tapered legs, and an apron with very subtle carved accents.  The four spacious full-width drawers, however, received the lion's share of the sculptor's attention.  Wildflowers with thistles emanate from a centered diamond form at the center of which is a single brass bale pull with guard.  Each drawer is framed by egg & dart molding, with all the adornment completely hand-carved.  Look closely to see the pegged mortise & tenon joinery, a traditional method of construction handed down for centuries.  The original back was replaced at some point in the 20th century.  Painstakingly stripped using our proprietary, non-toxic process that retains the natural beauty and patina of the wood.
