SaleA grand 18th-century French Louis XV period commode, crafted in select old-growth European oak, presents a commanding yet fluid expression of the period’s design. Its sculptural façade en arbalette forms a graceful archer’s-bow curve across the front, flowing naturally into the undulating apron below.
Each of the three deep drawers is centered with a carved laurel wreath tied with ribbon, worked in bold relief and framed by vertically fluted panels with simple brass bale pulls and delicate foliate accents. The commode rests on carved lions’ paw feet, lending presence and authority while remaining visually balanced.
The oak is finished in a rich, luminous patina, revealing depth and character achieved through time and careful preservation. Extra deep and generously proportioned, the commode reflects an era long before modern storage, when furniture was designed to be both substantial and elegant.
Circa 1780s, this authentic Louis XV period commode anchors a room with unmistakable French character—equally compelling in a bedroom, dining room, or entry, and valued as an important furnishing with enduring heirloom presence.
