Antique Country French Fruitwood Commode ~ Chest of Drawers is a definitive example of the genre, rendered from old-growth fruitwood as the trees reach a certain age where fruit is no longer produced in sufficient abundance, so in the inimitable pragmatism of the French, the tree becomes furniture to enjoy for hundreds of years!  This example features a highly convoluted contour across the facade, including the solid plank top, the framework and even the drawer facades, with stylized foliates, florals and scrollwork carved right into the front of the drawers themselves.  Finely cast high quality solid brass pulls allow easy access.  The apron features a complementary contour with just a hint of a shell flourish, and leads the eye to the scrolled and carved legs, of which there are four.  The sides are of a tailored design yet still provide a wonderful visual presence from all angles, while the drawers provide capacious storage for clothing and personal effects.
