Antique Country French Petite Commode ~ Nightstand exudes the quality that we have come to expect from fine hand-made furniture from France!  Solid oak was employed, even on the back panel, milled with chamfered edges and molded frameworks on the sides and even the back.  A subtle scroll on the side apron provides a hint of what is to come for the main facade ~ an elegantly contoured three-drawer affair lavished with stylized shell, floral and scrollwork with a contoured, beveled and raised panel at the center to frame the cast brass pull.  A shell also appears on the apron underneath, with complementary motifs on the rounded cornerposts carved from the top to the escargot feet on the tips of the legs.  The contoured and beveled top follows the lines of the drawer facade below, creating an elegant and distinctly French look.  Drawers open to reveal capacious storage for such a diminutive piece, and the entire work is large enough to serve as a seating group companion, by the bedside, or any cozy niche or place where a stylish yet functional work of the cabinetmaker's art is needed!
