Early 19th Century French Directoire Period Whitewashed Commode is an historic example commemorating the brief period of time in French history during the turbulent years following the ascendancy of Napoleon Bonaparte.  An austere neoclassical architecture combines with understated design elements like the diamond shaped forms on the drawer facades to create the special look.  The framework is assembled with hand-crafted pegged mortise & tenon joinery, with subtle accents like the reeded & fluted cornerposts, tapered legs, and apron designed with a stylized frill and wheat bordering to create the effect.  However, the most apparent element are the triple diamond forms on each of the three drawers, tastefully framed and fitted with brass knobs and key guards.  The old growth oak has been given a fresh whitewashed finish by our expert in-house professionals to give you and your family another generation or two of enjoyment.
