19th Century French Louis XIV Walnut Buffet ~ Credenza is a splendid example of the master craftsmanship for which France has been known for centuries!  Utilizing exquisite indigenous walnut, the artisans combined a beautifully carved facade with a work of marquetry art on the top for an intriguing combination.  The top features bookmatched grain patterns with a border around the perimeter like the frame on a painting.  The grain patterns lead the eye to the center which is comprised of a concentric circle with the grain oriented to produce an hourglass form.  The double beveled edge rests atop the gorgeous facade, designed with facing arched doors framed with detailed molding and enhanced on each corner with foliate carvings in relief.  Above the hinges appear matching foliates in relief, just next to the cutlery drawers next to the rounded and carved cornerposts, and the drawers feature foliate shields centered with cast brass pulls.  The carved panels between the arched cabinet doors and the cornerposts are hinged and latched such that one can use just the arched cabinet doors for access, or by opening the double latches on each panel, hinge the entire front facade open for unfettered access.  Ingenious!  A tailored base provides sturdy support.
