Inspired by the medieval coffers that once safeguarded linens, valuables, and household possessions, this French Gothic Revival buffet brings the character of an early carved chest into a practical cabinet form. Its low rectangular silhouette, projecting plank top, and sturdy oak construction closely recall the historic trunk, while two doors provide useful enclosed storage for today’s home.
Deeply carved panels decorate the façade, each centered with a flowering plant rising from a classical urn and framed by repeating geometric ornament. A carved central stile adds further floral detail, while the original iron strap hinges, escutcheons, and decorative mounts strengthen its Gothic character. The paneled sides and straightforward block feet preserve the solid, handcrafted appearance associated with antique coffers and early provincial furniture.
