19th Century Copper, Brass & Wood Egg Poacher is a clever cooking implement that evolved over the years to this form, which was state of the art at the time.  Solid brass base was durable, while copper was used for affixing the wooden handle probably due to its easier malleability and availability.  The wooden handle kept it cool for handling, with a little eye screw for hanging overhead.  Designed for seven eggs at a time, the surface was lined with tin which was and still is the best metal for the actual food contact surface.
