18th Century French Louis XVI Neoclassical Painted End Table is a classic example of talented rural artisans emulating the styles of the court.  Louis XVI is known for reviving the classic architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, displayed here in the rectilinear style including projecting corners appearing over the subtly tapered and fluted legs.  The legs are joined to the apron sections with pegged mortise & tenon craftsmanship, with the aprons all carved with laurel garlands and swags.  A single full width drawer appears on one side, fitted with a brass knob, providing the convenience of storage.  The painted finish has achieved a lovely patina over the decades, only adding to the allure, and accentuating the subtle carved detail.
